Doctors informed Darko Milicic that ligaments were intact on his shooting hand after X-rays came back negative. So the injury essentially is a wicked sprain -- one that Milicic will start to overcome Saturday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves if he has his way.

"It's a weird injury," Milicic said, adding that he's tired of watching. "It's going to be like this for some time. The pain is still going to be there. I just have to play through it."

Milicic's status will be re-evaluated today when he is scheduled to participate in a full-contact practice. He needs to restore game-caliber conditioning, and Grizzlies brass want to see how the thumb holds up.

"It's still limited," Milicic said of his thumb's range of motion. -- Memphis Commercial-Appeal
