Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson was fined $30,000 by the NFL, the league office announced Friday.

Goldson was reprimanded for "unnecessarily striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area" during the second quarter of last Sunday's 18-17 loss to the New York Jets. Goldson was called for a personal foul for his hit on New York tight end Jeff Cumberland.

    Dashon Goldson to appeal

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson has been suspended one game for a helmet-to-helmet hit on New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles.

Goldson will appeal the one-game ban and is trying to get the hearing expedited for Tuesday, according to a league source.
