My daughters 21st birthday tonight. She wants me to take her out to eat and drink and play. Where should we go? Downtown or eastside only....
Go bar hopping on 2nd right by Burnside....they have a ton of bars there. Just wear a bulletproof vest by Kell's. although it would be odd for you to be there since it'll be the "night crowd".
Great place! She'd probably enjoy Henry's on Burnside. And there are many other places to visit in that area (Ringlers, etc.)
I usually go to Aura when I'm in Portland. I've been doing my B-day there every year. After that we go to McFadden's or Voodoo?? Ringler's is pretty good for drinking I guess....just such a bunch of losers from high school I see when i go there for some reason.
Absinthe isn't illegal, so I'm sure that'll be served at a lot of places soon. I haven't been to THAT many places downtown, but a bunch of my friends that are girls seemed to enjoy Greek Cuisina. McFadden's in nice, but I think has a $7 dollar cover (which is ridiculous). Aura is pretty nice too. Never been to Ringlers or Dixie but have had friend's mention those places as well. I'm kind of surprised that your daughter wants to go out on her 21st birthday with her parents. Most people I know go out with their boys or girls, not the parents. Then again, I ended up blacking out and waking up on the hospital on the morning of my 21st birthday (went out at midnight the night before) so maybe some supervision can help.
I was going to say "only if she's hot!" ....but no not really. 21ers are a ton of fun anyways. I can supply my own cute girl. But it wouldn't hurt if she was ;-).
I think its because I've always done what PapaG does....which is hang out with my kids...and take them places...have fun....have a few laughs. We have the parent child thing going on, but there is also a friendship there as well. When there has been conflict between us I've always tried to put the relationship first. After the teen rebellion thing started to die down she likes to hang out with Dad in much the same way she always has. Her friends will probably join us and God only knows what they will do after they wear me out, but that's okay. She will have fun and so will I.
mexican restaurants are always fun because of tequila shots. japanese sushi with sake + beer is great too. you should start off with dinner with shots, then hit up some bars downtown. greek cusina is pretty crazy. KG was there when I was there...actually I think I've only been once or twice....insane times, have some legendary stories from there.... but the crowd is kind of dirty.
That's nice. My father passed away when I was a child so unfortunately I grew up without that kind of bond. My mom once came to the fraternity "Mom's weekend" but felt really out of place. Everyone elses' moms were getting hammered, playing beer pong, taking beer bongs (seriously). My mom worked out of HS and never was a party-er like that, so it's out of place for her and resultantly was for me growing up. She can go to work on a bottle of wine though. So for me, it's weird to envision that kind of relationship. That's nice though. Hopefully my future kids will see me as a fun dad one day.
True. In Corvallis almost everyone has dinner at El Prez on their birthday. Sort of a tradition, and you get your picture on the wall. Hmmm....conswelo's.
Good ideas ADP. I think the Green Dragon was selected because of the name and the hidden allure of what was once forbidden....absinthe. We'll probably do as you suggest and then move the party downtown. I know she likes breaking plates and seems sold on ouzo, so I'm hoping we'll stop by the Greek Cuisina. I'll do whatever the hell she wants to, drink till I can't, then the party will probably move on without the old man... ...and if along the way I manage to say or do something stupid they will love it and remind me of it every chance they get. They have a video of me in Mexico delivering a drunken diseration on what makes a quallity radish. Its pretty funny.
Tequila Willie's! not in PDX anymore though. dunno if there are crazy japanese restaurants in PDX with drunk sushi chefs...those are the best!
