Anyone know why he's not playing tonight?

Chris Paul is taking the scoring slack that West' absence leaves but sadly no one is taking the rebounding slack as yet (Scot Pollard has 2 more boards than the entire Hornets team).

He's got 17 at the half.

Just goes to show that the kid can score with the best of them, just chooses to be a pass-first PG and give his teammates the chance to covet the glory that goes with scoring these days.

Hey Jerry West, got in at 9:30 and wow the Pacers had run over the Hornets which made no sense. Too late to catch the radio on the NBA website, but I went to the NOLA website (everything New Orleans) operated by the Picayune, the largest paper in NO, and on the fan forum read that David West and his wife had their first baby today. Even Jordan missed a game when his wife had a baby. As you saw, Chris Paul can score, hit the 3, and get a pile of assists, but he was trying to do a little too much as the 4 TOS were out of character. The Hornets have done a good job of bringing in role players, but West is a legit budding star who has been playing like Karl Malone, well sort of. But certainly as good as Xavier McDaniel. Now, we have a team that can and should make the playoffs with our two PGS, one a franchise PG, the other not too shabby; West, a monster in College who must have been hurting last year and who has found his rhythm, possibly with Paul's help; and a benchload of guys with size 18 Nikes to set picks, rebound, block shots and defend (or they can forget playing) and who get paid to finish when the PG delivers the ball where they can hit an 8 ft. jumper or a dunk. J.R. Smith I'm afraid is no longer the X factor for this team. He would have put up at least 20 in a game by now if he was coming back. And he was and presumably is Paul's buddy. It's clear to me that not every good player can play for Byron Scott. And that's fine as far as that goes. But the team has devalued an important asset and this is a team that is one Gasol from a 4 seed next year. J.R. and his agent and the team need to work on this one, because he should have a pro career and the Hornets cannot afford to lose a first rounder in the last 3 years. By the way, I like Memphis and your posts.
I look forward to being able to visit the City with my wife and kids when the young ones can appreciate the history of a place like Memphis. My favorite teams currently: Dallas, Hornets, Spurs, Memphis, Nets and Sixers.

    Thanks man, i appreciate that.

I've been a fan of the city of Memphis long before we moved there, and it's my dream to go there one day, both to see the team play and to soak up the atmosphere of the place.

It's a long way from where i live so i'll probably never be able to afford the trip, but it's what i'll keep aiming for.

BTW I really appreciate your insights, both into the Hornets and the whole basketball world. Being so far away it's hard to get a lot of detail about stuff beyond the boxscore and the odd game on TV.

    David West missed again tonight.

As i understand it, his child was born last Thursday which makes his absence tonight quite unusual.

Pray that both mother and child are fine.

    Good News

Byron Scott told the New Orleans Picayune Hornet's beat writer today that David West was given two games off and is expected back Friday night. There was no mention or apparently no questions asked to indicate the young
West has any health issues, so God bless the new family! And good for the Hornets (or the NBA players' union?) for recognizing what's important in life.
The best insight I've seen into pro sports today is the link posted in the Utah Jazz forum on this site titled: Point, Counterpoint about the friendship between C. Paul and D. Williams last year's 4th and 3rd draft picks.

    I read that.

It was also good to see Deron step up and have a great game against Chris the other day.
Hopefully Jerry Sloan puts a bit of faith in the kid and lets him play, rather than the rubbish musical chairs scenario he's been employing with the Utah backcourt.
