It's been well over a month since Head Coach Doc Rivers was fired. He led the Magic to a 1-10 record, including 10 straight losses. He was known as a 'Player's Coach' by many of the Magic players. While he was head coach, Steven Hunter, and Donnell Harvey received a solid amount of minutes. Juwan Howard and Drew Gooden tried to play down low together, and it was unsuccessful. Johnny Davis brings a different style to the table. Since becoming head coach, the Magic are 7-12. Several changes were made once he became head coach. Hunter has seen a dramatic decline of minutes and Harvey was traded for a second round draft pick. He brought in veteran Rod Strickland, who is now our starting at point guard. Through all of his changes, the starting lineup was tweaked as well. Drew Gooden is now coming off the bench and adjusting well to his role. With that said, who do you think is the better coach? I had my doubts on Johnny Davis, but he has proven me wrong. Picking up Strickland has been the best move this season thus far. The only thing I dislike is starting Andrew Declerq. He's great for hustle play and energy, but he should come off the bench. The only problem is, the Magic don't have a true center worthy of starting. Zaza has been nice, but he is too raw. Steven Hunter is good for a few blocks but he has absolutely no low post game. Doc is still a great coach, but I believe he was unable to work with the Magic's offseason pickups.
I have the same thoughts.. I didnt know much about Davis when he came into this... To be honest I hated it.. But i guess Doc leaving was for the better.. The magic are on a great pace... They are winning, and Davis has made some great moves with the team.. Including the Rod Strickland pick up.. I agree with point about a Center.. Maybe they can do something about it with these draft picks and the guy they got.. plus getting rid of one of the ones they got... Like Hunter.. Oh and make no mistake about it. Doc is a great coach, he just couldnt get it done this season.. Hopefully he will get a job next year.. Because he can be a great coach with the right talent or the right start to help him out.. I think Davis has brought alot of stuff to orlando though.. i hope he can stay for the next year even, until he seems to have run his course.
Very well said. I think Doc is the better coach, but his time has past. Johnny has done a very good job since he won his 1st game. I still don't think he really knows what he's doing all the time, but whatever works.
I started to make a thread like this earlier but it's ok. I say Doc is better. He's more experienced and knows more than Davis. IMO
Doc is the better coach IMO but Davis has such a positive attitude, and that really helped us through the streak.
