Defensive end Kylie Fitts (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley) didn't expect to be in this position last spring. When he committed to USC in April 2012 and set his fall schedule to allow for early enrollment at Troy, Fitts figured he would be well into his first semester as a Trojan the day before signing day. "I believe they have the greatest coaching staff in the nation and they are on the rise," said Fitts of UCLA. While it is almost always something of a surprise when a recruit who considers USC his dream school ends up signing with UCLA over an offer from the Trojans, Fitts' pledge to the Bruins seemed inevitable as soon as USC coaches told the defensive end that there wouldn't be a spot available for him to enroll early. That news came just days before Fitts was scheduled to begin taking classes at USC and sent Fitts reeling. And back onto the open recruiting market.
