With the recent passing of "Dr. Death" Steve Williams (49) the number of wrestlers from the 80s and 90s who have passed away is growing at a terrifying rate. Here are some WWE/WCW/ECW performers who have died of unnatural causes in recent years... Louie Spicolli 27 Buzz Sawyer 32 "Crash Holly" 33 Chris Candido 33 Eddie Gilbert 33 Andrew "Test" Martin 33 Kerry Von Erich 33 "Renegade" 33 "Yokozuna" 34 "Big Dick Dudley" 34 Owen Hart 34 Bobby Duncum Jr. 34 Brian Pillman 35 "Umaga" 35 Marianna Komlos 35 Anthony Durante 36 Jerry Tuite 36 Eddie Guerrero 38 "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith 38 John Chronus 38 "Johnny Grunge" 39 Chris Benoit 40 Terry "The Executioner" Gordy 40 Bertha Fay 40 "Ravishing Rick Rude" 41 "Miss Elizabeth" 42 "The Big Boss Man" 42 "Earthquake" John Tenta 42 "Mike Awesome" 42 Brian "Crush" Adams 42 "Mr. Perfect" Curt Henning 44 Dino Bravo 44 "Bam Bam Bigelo" 45 "Junkyard Dog" 45 "Hercules" 46 "Big John Studd" 46 "Gentleman" Chris Adams 46 Mike Davis 46 "Road Warrior Hawk" 46 Steven Dunn 48 Rocco Rock 49 Steve Williams 49 Sherri Martel 49
While I agree this is a huge problem that needs to be explored, Steve Williams doesn't fit with this list as he died from throat cancer, rather than a drug issue or a heart attack.
Yeah I just grouped all the younger ones together. Owen died of an accident, Benoit and Alfonso both committed suicide, etc..
Althought I am no specialist, I thought that after The Wrestler this topic would gain more space in the media. Since I don't live in the USA my observation probably isn't very accurate. What do you guys think?
^ The mainstream media doesn't pay attention to pro wrestling. Except when something awful (ex. Chris Benoit) happens.
Benoit and Alfonso belong as the steroids and concussions are likely contributing factors. Owen's death is also attributed directly to the wrestling business. I'd leave them in there.
