Well, today I learned that my mother's husband got into a head on collision on Route 24. Some lady decided to go over the median because she didn't go the right way.... So now I am debating whether or not to ever drive for now, mainly because everyone I know seems to get into serious accidents. I lost my father this way, and althought I didn't like my mom's husband, I don't want to see this happen to anyone. He seems like he is in pretty serious condition from how it sounds. I just don't know if I am ready to drive now.

You should drive man, just remember to wear a seatbelt. To go through life without driving would just be a pain in the ass. Hope your step-dad is ok.

Just be cautious.. but not overly cautions. Wear your seatbelt, and follow all the rules... make sure your breaks and everything work all the time too. Breaks are probably the most important thing on a vehicle. I'm only 16 though, and I live in North Dakota so I don't really have too many people to look out for, so I may not be the best to ask. But that was my advice.I hope your step-dad is alright.

Thanks guys. Yea, I foundout he is ok, but now they gave him a reckless driving ticket for him being hit by an old lady who apparently didn't want to look or follow a law. He will end up getting 8 points on his license, insurance won't cover the truck, and surcharges every year for 3 years of $1,000. Makes no sense how they give him a reckless driving tickey as well as the other lady, and then say that the two stories are conflicting, so that means both get a ticket because there was no eyewitness. The strange part is, the person in his truck told them what happened, and the cop says, "I'm not the judge or jury."

Two years ago, I was the passenger in a passenger side collision (mom was about to make a turn, guy comes and hits the front passenger side of the car) crash on a rainy day when the guy sped through a stop sign in a school zone. The cop said if my mom didn't apply the brakes, it's possible I wouldn't be sitting here. However, I've gotten my permit but I still have a fear of getting in an accident, fender bender or anything. Everytime I see a car around me, it just freaks me out and I become nervous.I don't know how exactly I'll get over it but I'm gradually improving by just getting more experience.Hope your stepdad is OK. Going through or seeing an accident is always a wake-up call to everyone.

I've been in a lot of accidents in my life. Lots of fender benders, 2 while I've had my liscence.I was driving down a street and a lady pulled into a parking lot without yeilding to oncoming traffic and smashed right into the front right side of my car.Another time a lady in front of me--NO JOKE--stops her car and goes INTO REVERSE into me. I just sat on the horn, she got out and we inspected bumpers for damage. Thankfully I stopped fast enough that we didn't hit eachother both moving. There was no damage. The messed up part is it happened right after I got my car out of the shop from the other accident. The worst accident I ever was in though was after a Redskins Eagles game like 7 years ago and my dad was pulling out of a parking lot a guy was going insanely fast down the emergency lane to get by traffic and broadsided my car. The reinforced sidebeams on my volvo saved our lives I think.

A year and a half ago I got hit by a car while riding my bike. Worst injury was a sprained knee that took 2 months to heal. I would have been killed had I not been wearing a helmet. I've regained all my aggresion b4 the accident, but now it's smart aggresion. And glad everyone is okay. Do drive. It's okay. When I first started driving, I had fear of driving, but I overcame my fear and got my license a few months ago. And I re-started my practice to get my license a few weeks after a girl I knew at my school got into a horrific accident and got killed. I posted a thread back when it happened

But the hard part for me is knowing my father was killed by a tractor trailer. That would be my main concern, so...

A bike is a ton more safe than a car. Especially when you don't ride right next to cars.

Learning to drive is basically a necessity. You have to be able to get to places. Sure, you could try to like close to work and your other needs but you will be limiting yourself.

I'm Asian, and I took the subways in the Bronx back in the 99's. I'm still alive to tell you the story.
