What the hell is he still doing in Orlando? He shoulda been part of the 2 trades. Please trade him now that Battie is more skilled then him. We don't need Declerq anymore. Give him up for a Freshen's smoothie.
I can't argue with this, the guy is virtually useless on our roster as it stands now. I wonder if he would even get any minutes now that we have Battie. I've never been much of a DeClerq fan, but now more than ever, he just doesn't seem to fit the kind of team that we're trying to build here. My prediction is that we either trade this guy for some kind of future compensation, or keep him on the roster and have him on the long end of the bench.
Looking at our roster now he'd probably be the 12th man on it. We could trade him for some future compensation/salary cap relief.
It will be hard to trade DeClerq in a one/two man trade. Since his contract is sort of big, if we trade him for a pick it is going to have to be a tream well under the cap. And in a two man trade, we would have to include some picks to get something decent in return. The only way I see him leaving Orlando is via free agency or as a money filler in a large trade. I say keep him for right now, and then lessen his contract once he becomes a free agent. By then we will drop some other large contracts and can shot for good player.(Yao, Amare..) DeClercq is a very hard worker, in my opinion, and is a very underated player. If he learns how to stay out of trouble he could be a solid contributor 4/5. But he needs to improve his footwork...
Andrew should've been traded instead of Gooden if you ask me. Then we wouldn't been ripped off in that trade considering we would lose a bust like Andrew. I think JD likes him and this could be the reason why he's still here. If John is looking to rebuild this team the first thing that should've went was the big D.
There's no way that they woulda done that trade then. Declerq, Varejo and Hunter for Battie, they'd be getting ripped. I wouldn't have been as disappointed iff the deal was Battie and a 1st for Gooden, Declerq. We keep Varejo.
