People often use the term world class to describe a player - which usually seems to include some correlation to performance on the international stage. In football I think the term does not follow it's literal meaning. Players like John Terry and Steven Gerrard don't perfrom on the international stage, and Henry often doesn't for france, Ronaldinho hasn't for brazil for sometime. Does this mean that they are not world class? Some clarification please?

    IMO

world class is for players who stand out regularly at international and maybe Champions League level.

but with the quality of players steadily declining maybe the criteria shud be loosened to include people who did quite well a few years ago?

the likes of Ronaldinho, Messi, Terry, Gerrard, Rooney etc would have been very average players in the past but now they are some of the 'best'.

World class are players that always come up in conversations for doing amazing things. Henry, C.Ronaldo and Ronaldinho are a few 'world class' players IMO
