I really wonder what's going on with this guy. He performed well for the Magic last season for the most part, and I know that he is a restricted free agent, but not really in high demand so it really doesn't matter. Obviously, no team is going to make an offer on this guy right now, so the Magic aren't going to get any compensation for this guy, that's for sure. They probably wouldn't end up matching any offer either since he really isn't needed at this point in Weisbrod's mind. How do I know this? I remember all last year, whenever the subject of Stevenson being a free agent came up, everyone (Weisbrod, other front office people, hell even The Goose) would question if there would be a need for this guy at all. Well, there is room, and the guy can legitimately play three positions competently, so he'd be good coming off the bench. He's clearly a work in progress as he isn't much of a defender and really needs some experience under his belt until he can become a real threat, but I really wonder why the Magic are leaving him hanging out there so long. Sure, the guy doesn't know how to wear a headband properly, but he's a good guy off the bench with our lineup this year and can run the court pretty wel, why not pick him back up?

I think why they arent crazy about the idea of having the guy back is because he would present depth problems and rotation problems at the 3 spot. If hill returns helathy obviously he will be the magics starter than you have mobely who may very well move to that position if the magic deside to play francis at 2 and nelson at the 1. Also you have to find some way between power forward minutes and minutes at the three to fit garriety into the mix. Stevenson is a young talented guy and the magic realise that they dont want to stunt his growth and development by stacking all these guys above him in the roation and playing him inconsistant minutes. If he is back for the magic next year he may struggle finding playing time for the team. Also dont rule out the fact the magic may do a possible sign and trade involving his contract to possible portland or something to get a darius miles though that wouldnt make sence because he to is a small forward.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting DirtySouth:</div><div class="quote_post">they already made him an offer. but I haven't heard anything if he has accepted it or not.</div> They made him an offer? Wow, that one really slipped under the radar. I searched on ESPN and couldn't find anything. Couldn't find anything on the Magic website either.
They should re sign him,he isnt a big time player or anything but was solid for the Magic. He averaged about 11 PPG thats not bad and he would be a nice player top bring off the bench,he can also play 3 postions anytime you have a player like that it brings more depth and versatility to the team.
One thing to make clear here: Mobley is only 6-4 and there is no hope of him playing small forward and being a liability on defense at that position. He'll strictly play the two with the Magic, so I feel that Stevenson could indeed get quality minutes at the three.

That might mean Stevenson is moving on.
Hmm, Augmon is another defensive presence. Maybe the Magic are trying to become a Detroit-like team with defense? They could field a team of Cato/Battie/Augmon/Mobley/Francis. That lineup would allow less than 70 points each game IMO.
Deshawn in time could and probably will develop into a fine and great player. He didn;t show me anything last season when we started him but I still have hope for him somewhere. He will probably come off the bench and play the 3 since Mobley is restricted to the two and there's no way in hell we'll start Francis at the two and Jameer at the one. I love both of them but they'll just get posted up all-day by opposing teams. If we do sighn Augmon then it's more than likely Deshawn will be leaving, we'll just have to wait and see.
Well we signed Bradley, so we don't really have anything else other than the minimum to give to Augmon and I doubt he would take that. I would really like Deshawn back, he's got a lot of hustle and with some work he could be a good player. He's very explosive, he just doesn't finish strong. Then again there's the problem where he would play considering we are already 2 deep at the PG, SG, and SF positions. He'd be a good backup plan for if Hill isn't healthy, but I think it would be better for him to go somewhere else and get some quality minutes. We keep Declerq because of his hustle, but we don't keep this guy, who hustles more and has more skils in his big toe than Declerq does in his whole body.
