Across the NFL you won't find many tight end groups more productive than the collective the Detroit Lions have run out in recent seasons. In 2012 Brandon Pettigrew Tony Scheffler and Will Heller combined for 118 receptions and 1241 yards. Pettigrew and Scheffler the primary receiving options are back in the fold this season. Lions coach Jim Schwartz has offered ringing endorsements for both in recent weeks. He called Scheffler an important part of the offense and praised his outstanding offseason. On Pettigrew Schwartz said he doesn't remember the veteran being in better shape. The Lions like what they're getting from the group and they have two promising rookies in training camp who could supplement the unit even more but there's one key area where the team would like to see improvement. "We would probably like to see us get more production in the end zone" offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. "One of my goals is to utilize their ability and their size down in there for matchups. We have such great length at the tight end position but I think we can put together some things that could really help us down in those tight areas on the field; the red zone even third down." In 2011 Pettigrew and Scheffler combined for 11 touchdowns.
