10 K's1 BB1 ER1 HRA7.0 IPBetter than I expected. I expect him to be good, but I figured he'd have a fairly rocky start to the year. He's going to set himself up for the Gold Glove if he keeps gunning runners out the way he did today (starting a double play and beating a runner to first to get out of an inning)

Great debut. Next start, he'll be facing Ichiro

David DeJesus, the Kansas City player who hit the solo shot off of Matsuzaka, said after the game:"I hit it off the Gyroball"

lol. It wasn't a Gyroball. The Gyroball really isn't all that anyways. All it is (Supposibly) is a pitch with a Bullet-Like Spin to it that doesn't have any break on it. The Arm speed makes it look like a Fastball (And it's slower then a Fastball so their timing would be off), and the Backward spin makes it look more like a breaking pitch to hitters (Except it doesn't break so the batters swing is in the wrong spot), so they really have no idea what's coming if used correctly. But the idea that it's this miracle pitch that is unhittable simply isn't true. Matsuzaka is good because he can throw 5 or 6 pitches for Strikes, and has excellent stuff on those pitches, not because of a Gyroball.

Having a good sense of humor after a loss is important if you play for Kansas City.
