Diego Forlan Could Play Alongside Samuel Eto'o

The Uruguyan striker's father has hinted that Barcelona could finally succeed in landing the Atletico star.

Speculation concerning Diego Forlan's future at the Vicente Calderon has intensified after Barcelona chairman, Joan Laporta, affirmed yesterday he would refuse to meet Valencia's €50 million price-tag of David Villa.

Forlan appears to be Barca's number one alternative to Villa, and the Uruguayan's father has now indicated that the prospect of playing for the Catalan club appeals to every player.

"He is at Atletico, very happy there because he has been treated wonderfully, but without a doubt that playing in a team like Barcelona would interest any player," Pablo Forlan told COM Radio.

According to Forlan senior, Barcelona had already expressed an interest in the striker on two occasions, when he was at Manchester United and then at Villarreal.

"Now it seems there is interest again," he stated. "They say that third time's the charm."

"We are aware of what is being said on the Spanish news dailies. We are undoubtedly talking about the team that play the best football in the world.

"They remind me of Brazil from the 1970s. Football is weaved at the centre of the midfield, and there Barcelona have two extraordinary players like Xavi and Iniesta, who make the team play the way they want."

Pablo Forlan insists that his son would have no problem to play alongside Samuel Eto'o as the twosome are "compatible".

"The great players always are [compatible], like Villa and [Fernando] Torres in the national team. Eto'o is a wonderful player, and a great scorer."

He also praised Diego Forlan, whom he considers to be part of a group that contains the big goal-scorers, players that "are born with a gift."

"Nowadays it is not easy to get great scorers in the market," Pablo noted. "If Madrid signed Kaka, who is without a doubt a great player, but not a big scorer, for almost €70 million... then how much are Villa, Eto'o and Forlan worth?

"Besides, Diego has an advantage: he has played and known the league for years. Look at what happened with [Thierry] Henry, who did not have a good first year, but showed his worth in his second season [at Barcelona]."

Why are they dying to add a striker to replace Gudjohnsen, who they never used? Find some prospect and groom him to team with Bojan in the future.
