I know we're over the cap, but since we've had a legitimate injury to our starting Point, is it possible? Rod Strickland is available. I know he's older and not a threat from 3, but he's a vet that I truly trust running the offense. He and A.C. would compliment each other becuase they can both drive & dish. Rod can score and always has his head up. He is a another "true" point. He did a good job when he was here before, but was sidelined with a groin injury near the end of his run.

I think there is an exception that we can sign free agents to a veterans minimum or something like that. We already signed Thomas, so I'm not sure whether we can sign any more.

But I wouldn't want Strickland, he played for Houston already this season but he's old and slow, why not look for someone younger in the CBA?

The disabled player exception is granted to players who are out for the remainder of the season. So we aren't allowed to use this exception. There is a 1 million dollar exception but I think we used it already but I'm not sure. We only have the minimum player salary exception and 10 day contracts.

There aren't any good pg left, so Rod might be the only option unless the team finds some unknown talent. Troy Bell and Mark Jackson might be a possibility. In my opinion, I don't think the team will sign any more players.

I am just utterly unimpressed with the play of Troy. Rod Strickland is a dependable point guard who knows how to run the team. He's an "Old School" player who knows his role and plays it. True, he is older, has had some injuries, and will need a little time to get into true "game shape", but that's what makes it a good deal. Troy will still have playing time, but in crunch time or when we need to have a dependale leader, we can pull out Strick.

Strick is definately one of my all-time top 5 favorite point guards, but realistically he wont be much help to this team at this point, think about it. It was pretty clear in Houston that he couldnt play more then 5 minutes stretches during games before getting tired. And 10-12 minutes tops total in a game that means that Troy Hudson would still have to play important minutes cause your not going to play Carter the other 30 plus minutes that Strick isnt playing because Carter is not a point guard who will be effective playing that many minutes. Carter playing 30+ minutes then becomes a liablity due to his lack of an offensive game. And teams will focus on making him be a scoring threat and shooting the ball from the outside the longer he stays on the floor, so Carter goes from a team(+) to a team(-), if you extend his minutes in such a fashion. Carter is effective in the 15-20 minute range, where he can play that entire team off energy, hustle& intangibles rather skill. So that would leave the Wolves playing 3 subpar point guards opn a nightly basis, that just wont be effective in the long run.

If the Wolves were going to add a point guard they would have done so already. A guy like Anthony Goldwire might have been a decent fit for a couple 10 day contracts, cause he has played in the Wolves system in the past. And already has a decent feel for everyones game on the roster. But this late in the season trying to accomidate another pg into the Wolves offensive system, while still in the playoff race. And expecting him to play a legit role is unrealistic. The Wolves are just going to have to ride it out with Hudson & Carter. And hope that Hudson gets into a stretch of games where he gets a groove going cause he is that type of streaky player.
