Cubs now in market for manager as is the Nationals. I like Girardi but part of me thinks it would be a good time for a change at manager. I wish Cashman would get fired but don't see any way that is going to happen.
...I wouldn't mind Girardi returning...if not, I would imagine the Yanx will consider Mattingly or Willie Randolph...maybe Pena.
I always wanted Mattingly but the Dodgers won't let him go. I want nothing to do with Randolph. Pena is ok but not sure who else they would consider. I think they need new blood from top to bottom. New pitching coach also even though they say they want Larry back I personally don't.
...Donnie's contract is up, so I think it would be more of a matter of whether or not he wants to return to NY. He's obviously has a better team and a better situation out in lala land...but who knows. ...as far as Girardi, I don't think Jesus Christ could have gotten more out of this year's team.
He deserves to be back. Some may not like him but he doesn't deserve to be dismissed over a disaster that wasn't his fault.
I think he should be back... with as many players who missed significant time as he had to deal with, some of whom were 2nd stringers as the 1st team was out too... He did make some head scratching moves... but I think he should be brought back
Joe is not the greatest manager around, but isnt the worst either. This organization's problems to not start with Joe. The higher levels and player development is the issue and that has nothing to do with him.
Considering the shit he was handed & what was left to deal with I think the Yankees did pretty good. But when I think of all the bone-head moves & decisions he made throughout the year, I'm not so sure if anyone of us couldn't have led this team to 85 wins. So I'd have to say no to Girardi, I mean my last memory of Joe (hopefully) was last week after Joba game up a late inning 3 run homer, Girardi was asked why he brought in Joba & Joe's reply was (and I kid you not)....."Well he's been pitching well of late" Typical clueless Joe. I think this team just needs to clean house from top to bottom & that includes Rothchild, Long, Girardi & any & all of the incompetent bastards running this joke of a farm system. This has been the gospel according to Rick.
...though the coaches were "handed shit" to work with but still "did pretty good", the coaches should still all be fired....sorry, I don't see the logic. ...the Yanx had a calamitous year, so fuck it, let's fire everyone...that's the ticket.
Okay let me put it this way. Rothchild did shit with the pitching staff. That's pretty obvious. Also obvious by the low batting averages Long failed to help ANYONE. Girardi, well plain & simple is an idiot. Our farm system is in a shambles & there is currently NO ONE who will be stepping in a major league uniform to help out any time soon. So yeah someone needs to be held accountable & like it or not its not going to be Hal, Hank, Levine & probably not Cashman. So that leaves the coaches, Scouts & the clowns running the farm system for collecting very nice pay checks with little to nothing to show for it. Even an old bastard like you has to see that someone needs to pay for this mess. Now repeat after me. "Rick, you've explained things in a way that I understand and you're right. Now I can only hope that some day I could share your knowledge & brilliant logic".
...lol, you already admitted that the Yanx "did pretty good" even though the coaches were "given shit" to work with...but that Girardi "is an idiot" and that Long and Rothchild deserve to be fired...sorry, but you make no sense because you're contradicting yourself. ...Sorry but Girardi is no "idiot", far from it, and please, just stop pretending you have any fucking idea how to manage a team or that you know more about the personnel and the game than Girardi....EVERY fucking day, just like pasta, you find the need to ramble on and on about Girardi and i'st old and played out. ...name a manager who turns bad teams into good ones. ...name a pitching coach that turns bad pitchers into good ones. ...name a batting coach that turns bad hitters into good ones.
Since I have respect for my elders I'm going to be kind here. Alright, I'm not looking for coaches that can turn bad pitchers or bad hitters into good ones. All I'm looking for are coaches that can help slumping good players. Case in point Sabathia, a very good pitcher who pitched like crap this past season, Rothchild obviously couldn't find any floors in his delivery to help correct him. Nor could he do anything for Kuroda after the all star break. You know lets go to the video tape to see where his delivery changed from the 1st half of the season compared to the 2nd half. Guys like Joba & Hughes we won't even talk about, except to say the you'd think he could have found SOMETHING in there delivery to warrent there bad ass pitching. So I'm not looking for miracles from these coaches. Not looking for Stewart to become Johnny Bench or Mike Piazza. Just looking for coaches that could help 260-290 hitters that are slumping to 230-240. Or pitchers that all of a sudden see a run or a run & a half added to there ERAs. And yes I did say Girardi had crap to deal with but here's the part you missed, I also said IMO anyone could have led this team to 85 wins. And sorry my friend but Pasta aside I'm not the only one on this board that questioned MANY of the asshole moves Girardi made this past season. So who knows maybe if he weren't such an idiot we could have won a few more games. And we may not have to continue this much longer, the cubs fired there manager today. Oh & you watch your tone with me. Don't MAKE me come over there.
...Kuroda, Nova, CC, and Pettitte had a combined ERA of 3.79. Hate to break it to you, but that's pretty damned good, especially in the A L East...but you want blame Rothchild for Joba and Hughes?...seriously. ...Kuroda's late season drop off probably had more to do with fatigue than anything mechanical...CC's loss in velocity has been there all year ever since his surgery and also has nothing to do with his delivery. ...and second guessing managers after the fact is one thing, but referring to Girardi as an "idiot" is something else...Girardi is far from an idiot. Why would the Cubs want to pursue an "idiot"?...I guess Epstein is an idiot too? ...but I'll ask one more time; "...name a manager who turns bad teams into good ones. ...name a pitching coach that turns bad pitchers into good ones. ...name a batting coach that turns bad hitters into good ones." ...I doubt you can name them because, well, they simply don't exist.
3.80 actually, but what is 0.01? anyway, I wouldn't say pretty damned good, BUT, good considering the league average ERA was 3.86 and the AL average ERA was 3.99... Now while those 4 had an ERA of 3.80, the rest of the team combined for an ERA of 4.08 still not that far from the AL average. The entire team as a whole had an ERA of 3.94 (better than AL average, worse than ML average) Go a step further and take CC out, the ERA for Kuroda, Nova, and Pettitte was 3.40 while the rest of the team combined for an ERA of 4.24. that is a quarter of a run worse than the AL average or 0.38 worse than the MLB average. So Kuroda, Nova, and Pettitte combined for an ERA that only 4 teams did better than (Atlanta at 3.18, LA Dodgers at 3.25, Pittsburgh at 3.26, and Cincinnati at 3.38 and all 4 of them are post season players) Moving forward, what do we have to look forward to? Losing Kuroda's 3.31 ERA in 32 starts, Pettitte's 3.74 ERA in 30 starts, Mariano's 2.11 ERA in 64 games and 44 saves, and HOPEFULLY Hughes's 5.19 ERA in 29 starts (6.32 ERA at home) and Joba's 4.93 ERA in 45 games... That comes to a 4.00 ERA... again, not far off from AL avg... BUT need to find a way to replace 91 starts (3 starters) assuming all the other starters stay healthy not to mention the 44 saves in in 51 opportunities (86.3% save rate) it's going to be tough... I don't expect Nova to have a repeat of his 3.10 ERA and I would hope that he would throw more than his 139 and 1/3 innings (20 starts/23 games) so I don't think the pitching will be better next year.... I don't think Rothchild will make a difference either way...
...yup, and the point I was making was why on one hand, would Rothchild seemingly help Nova, Andy, and Kuroda but ignore the other pitchers?...it makes no sense. ...It's the same with batting coaches. How in the hell was Long supposed to turn scrubs like Brignac, Francisco, Murphy, Joseph, Lillibridge, Gonzalez, Neal, Cruz, Adams, Hafner, Romine, Stewart, Ryan, Nelson, Wells, Almonte, Nix, Reynolds, etc., into something they obviously are not, which is good hitters?
I don't know if you're doing this intentionally just to bust my chops or if its possible that my last post went entirely over your head. For starters I can agree that much of Kuroda's finished product could have been from exhaustion over perhaps his last 3-4 starts BUT...over his last 10 starts now that's something else. I mean when you go from 10-6 with an ers of 2.38 to 1-7 over his last 10 with an era near 5 1/2 you would think some logic would have set in like Rothchild being able to find SOMETHING in the 2nd half that he wasn't doing earlier. I mean, he is collecting a paycheck for something. You know like the pitching coaches in Detroit & St Louis to name a few. And no my friend I am NOT blaming Rothchild for Joba & Hughes. Just pointing out that as a PITCHING COACH you would think he could have helped there game at least a tiny bit don't you? Now I thought I already made this VERY clear but since we're pals for you I'll repeat it...... I'm not looking for a hitting coach or a pitching coach that could turn BAD players into GOOD ones. Just looking for hitting & pitching coaches that could correct or help slumping playing get back to doing what they're capable of. Now this topic has pretty much run its course. As far as why the Cubs would want an IDIOT like Girardi, seriously? And if Epstien is the GM of the Cubs then all you have to do is look at there record & roster & you could answer your own question regarding him.
CC lost velocity and wasn't able to adjusy. I'm not sure what you expected a pitching coach to do. Do we give the pitching coach credit for Nova's turn around?
Of course we do. Whoever his pitching coach was while he was sent down because THAT'S the one who helped him.
