Lets face it, this team is nowhere near a playoff team at the moment. If this roster stays the same...we dont make the playoffs. Infact theres no doubt we could be 1-5 after saturday to the twolves (who are playing better then us at the moment). Then we go on the road for 4 games and maybe go 1-3 if we are lucky. Therefore we would be 2-8 or 3-7 at best. At what point does KP realize we need a vet? Do you guys think KP feels like this team should make the playoffs or does he see it as a experience type year? With that said, should we end up like 3-12...do the blazers react with a trade before its too late?

Personally i feel playoffs are a must or this season is a major letdown. Its really hard to get a read on this team right now, I mean we are missing 2 key players BUT good teams find ways to win as the jazz did when missing star players....hell they are 4-0. Anyway...i feel like this season is starting to slip away and make no mistake....theres gonna be NO 13-0 span this year.

It'll all be fine when Blake and Outlaw (or Frye) have been showcased enough that we get Webs/GO back and make a trade for either one of the recently-signed free agents (Boom Dizzle, Arenas, etc) or trade for someone like Nash or Kidd.

But that's me being a homer.

Oh, dude. You are SO asking for it :)

As to the original topic: no panic. This is a tough stretch. We all knew it was going to be. It's going to be this way for another 15 games or so.

go back to the predictions thread of the first 18 games. the majority of people had the blazers starting slow(though i personally thought they would open playing well and then drop some games) and finishing somewhere around .500. with the schedule and oden going down, it's really no shock that the blazers are 1-3 right now.

    (A) Our first 10 games are absurdly difficult. It's almost unfair that we have to play so many great teams right after the other.

    (B) It's almost a good thing because our weaknesses are becoming crystal clear. We could fix these problems early enough in the season we could still push for the playoffs. Our obvious needs is a good starting quality PG.

Only an elite team would have a winning record with the Blazers opening schedule right now. I was very dissappointed with the Utah game, but on the bright side, we got the San Antonio win. Now if you consider the fact, that I really didn't think Portland would win any of the tough games, and that they would win in Utah, they really have the same record that they would have if it had gone that way?

Bummed they haven't turned out better? Yep.

Think Nate still has no idea of who to play when? Yep.

Will things turn around with a couple of wins and some confidence for a young team? Faster than you can think.

They just need to find some things that work, and then improve upon that.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
This is the classic MIXUM thread. MIXUM is truly back. :)

And no, not time to panic, obviously. If this were a soft part of the schedule...well, even then, 4 games in is far too early. But considering it's the hardest part of the schedule, this should have been expected and part of anyone's projections for the season.

Only one word in all caps? Tsk tsk... you can do better than that! ;)

We are where I thought we'd be schedule wise... actually I didn't think we'd beat SA. We haven't lost a home game yet... so we are still on pace for .500. ;)

Come on, Dude. No one expected anything else this season. We all knew we could start the season 5-10 or 3-12. The early season schedule was ridiculously un fair.

I just went to the liquor store to get a fifth of scotch (yumm, Glenmorangie), and I'm on my way to the doctor's office this afternoon to get my prescription for Barbiturates.

I'm not upset about the record. I predicted to myself they woul dbe 1-3 right now. They also have played well in all but the L*ker game.

The thing that concerns me the most are the trends this team is showing.

    1. They continue to like jump shots out of the flow of offense
    2. They still have no perimeter defense
    3. They still don't get enough easy baskets
    4. They are still one of the lowest scoring teams in the league
    5. Nate still has no clue when it comes to substitutions (especially late in games)
    6. Brandon Roy doesn't get that he needs to be more aggressive on offense (he is a star, act like one)
    7. LaMarcus Aldridge still likes to float a little too much instead of rebound
    8. Our offense is still really basic and easy to defend
    9. We still allow ourselves to get pushed around
    10. I still don't see any fire from any of our players on the floor

This team needs to throw down on somebody

People, it has been 4 games. Lets wait and see what pans out. We didn't start so hot last year either. It took one incredible December for us to get out of it. I have a feeling in the last 3/4 of our season that there will be a decent sized winning streak or two. Most of our tough games and stretches come in the 1st quarter of the season.

It's times like this that I turn to Hudson for leadership.

    I stopped reading right here.

    1. They've gone toe-to-toe with the Suns, Spurs, and Jazz. We are very near being a playoff team.

    2. The team we're seeing today is not the team of tomorrow. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will our championship-caliber basketball team.

The schedule so far has been ridiculous. Road games against the Lakers/Suns/Jazz, with the Suns game being a 2nd of back to back, is almost unfair. The only reprieve was a home game against the Spurs. Utah had the worst record of all the teams last year at 54 wins. Even tonights game is stacked against us since Houston had a day off and we are on the 2nd night of back to back games. Combined with with the loss of both Greg and Martell and I am perfectly fine with us being 1-3 so far. I still think we will be close to .500 by the end of November.

I'm nowhere near panicking. I think we'll be fine once Oden is back and integrated. I expect that we'll have a hill to climb when that time comes, but I believe we can do it.

Utah only lost 4 times at home last season. Sure, one of those was to Portland, but it took Martell scoring 24 in a quarter to get it done. Historically Utah has been a house of horrors for Portland. We don't win there much. We had a chance to steal one last night, but didn't.

I don't think it is time to panic, not even close.

Martell's 24 point quarter happened while playing Utah in Portland.

The victory in Utah was earlier in the season, while LaMarcus was out for a 5 game stint.

(Not disagreeing with the general point, just correcting)
