I think it hinges on his shooting. If he can consistently shoot threes, paired with his passing, he could be a star.
I would say no on superstar, but if he works his ass off and improves a lot over time, he could be an all-star.
This always goes back to how people define superstar. I tend to say top 15 in the league but it could be top 5. Could be top 10. I think the bare minimum is making All-NBA.
To early to tell. Need to see more to make an informed prediction. But my early prediction - No. Not a superstar. But a star, potentially.
Yes but potential is the key word. I think he could be a superstar, a borderline all star, role playing starter, backup big or out of the league after his rookie deal. Right now I lean towards a role playing starter but we'll see.
Maybe. He has some “can’t teach” skills and abilities (or at least harder to affect) between the ears combined with work/reps. Awareness, vision, timing, team mentality, decision making, touch, hands … He doesn’t look to have a lot of bad weight though his need for improved conditioning and strength (core for bend) is well documented. Still, he moves well as a young big. He looks like a pro. Superstar? How much work will he put in? He looks like he some “it.” But this is all potential … which is fine. How much playing time will he have in the first 20 games of the season, and what will be the growth curve if he gets 12-15 minutes? In each quarter of the season, how will he look and show he fits? How many leaps can he make in two years given the additional language, distance, and cultural differences? … along with he’s a big? Will Yang become an NBA rotation player? Yes or probably. Starter minutes? More likely than less with the already shown want-to and skills. Star quality starter (top half at the position)? Don’t know and maybe. Superstar? Rare. Maybe.
The question is whether he has superstar potential. That question can be answered at any time based on any data. If you're not comfortable making that prediction, that's fine, but you can absolutely look at what we know and say whether he has the potential to be a superstar. Case in point - Caleb Love does not have the potential to be a superstar. I don't need a year.
I believe the slow feet. Also believe his IQ is off the charts. I think he can be the best Chinese player to ever play and if he stays healthy, have a long and fruitful career. Basic answer, not there yet but i can see it.
Everyone has superstar potential. Look at our own beloved Conductor. He didn’t come in and set the world on fire, and while not a “superstar”, he is on the HOF
