TUALATIN — Marcus Camby's injured left ankle was too sore to practice Saturday, so the Trail Blazers' starting center watched from the sidelines as the team prepared for a critical game against the Northwest Division rival Denver Nuggets.

When he wasn't limping around the practice facility, Camby, who injured his ankle during a scrimmage on Friday, was undergoing treatment in the trainer's room or watching coaches run through the game plan against the Nuggets.

He's officially listed as questionable for Sunday's nationally televised game at Denver.

"I don't know," he said, when asked if he thought he'd play. "It's a big game, a TV game, so hopefully I can ... help my teammates."

Camby called his injury "freakish." He was simply passing the ball while standing out of bounds underneath the basket and his foot became lodged in a small gap between the floor and the basketball standard.

"I was taking the ball out of bounds; see that basket right here," Camby said, pointing to a standard. "The space underneath, my foot slipped and got caught up under there. Rolled it. Freakish."

It's Camby's second ankle injury since joining the Blazers near the NBA trade deadline and he says this one is more severe than the one that caused him to sit out a game at Toronto.

If he has to miss another game, coach Nate McMillan said Juwan Howard would take his place in the starting lineup.

"It's more sore than the last time," Camby said. "Last time, I was able to bounce back real quick. Hopefully I can do the same thing and be out there tomorrow."

    lol. Our new team mascot.

Come to think of it, it sort of looks like a primitive micronesian version of Blaze.

He's not playing. Going with that gut instinct.

I'm okay with that. Let Li'l Bit and Birdman go at it. They both get tossed, problem solved.
