Dolphins need cornerbacks

Having already addressed roster needs by signing safeties Gibril Wilson and Yeremiah Bell as well as center Jake Grove, the Miami Dolphins still need to obtain some cornerbacks via free agency or the draft, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

The Dolphins lost cornerback Andre’ Goodman in free agency to the Denver Broncos.

Plus, Miami haven’t gotten much of a return on its investment in 2006 first-round cornerback/safety Jason Allen.

A former University of Tennessee standout, Allen was primarily relegated to special-teams duty last season as he made two starts. According to NFL.com, Allen has 11 career starts in three NFL seasons, intercepting five passes with 118 tackles and eight pass deflections.

The glaring need for cornerback help was highlighted once again by the Buffalo Bills’ addition of wide receiver Terrell Owens. And New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is returning from a knee injury that sidelined him last season.

Not to mention the Dolphins have 2009 games against several other accomplished quarterbacks: Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger.

Dolphins starting cornerback Will Allen’s contract expires after next season.
