"Erik Walden owned up to his mistake, but that wasn't enough to save his job.

The Miami Dolphins waived Walden, a reserve linebacker and key special teams contributor, on Wednesday in the wake of his missed assignment that led to the first regular-season blocked punt of Brandon Fields' career.

Defensive lineman Rob Rose was signed off the practice squad to take Walden's place on the 53-man roster. Rose provides additional depth with reserve defensive lineman Tony McDaniel serving a one-game league suspension against the Patriots for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

Walden, in his third year out of Middle Tennessee, was waived out of training camp but re-signed on Sept. 15 after the Dolphins' special teams struggled in Week 1 at Buffalo."
