I'm not sure Cohan is comfortable eating the remaining money due to Nelson on the contract he signed. I don't think either side would be open to a buyout either. For the sake of team hopefully that isn't the case and they do win without Nellie.
I like him though, he's a great coach, it just seems it's time for him to retire. Maybe it's just me.
I don't think a few games without Nelson will matter much one way or the other. With Nelson the problem is more his long-term handling and development of players, particularly young players. I will be keeping an eye on minute allotments, but I don't think Smart will change much while he's on a fill-in basis.
I'm not sure if it's going to be only temporary because having pneumonia at his age can get bad in a hurry.
From the human side, I wish him a speedy recovery and do not wish him any ill-will. From the fan side, he needs to go and fast. That game against the Blazers was fun because he was forced to play Curry and Ellis and Randolph. I know if he had his druthers he'd never have done that. It would have been Maggette, Sjax, Watson, Turiaf and Hunter at the end and it would have been ugly.
