I've heard a lot of people saying that today's league has gone down the drain with all the fighting and what not. That's bullsh**. Anybody who's seen the NBA in the 1970's knows what an image problem REALLY is.In the 70's brawls happend literally every night. The league had only one superstar, and that was KAreem Abdul-Jabaar and he ended up braking his hand on Kent Bensons face. Every player was hopped up on uppers and cocaine, fans payed more attention to the MLB, NHL and NFL and the ABA was much more fun and was loaded with more talent. Almost no NBA games were televised, I remember having to stay up till 1 am just to see the Lakers play the 76ers in the 1980 finals. So really, David Stern, despite his tight-ass rules, has done a brilliant job. The NBA has come a long way definately.

I'm not one of the guys who says the NBA has turned into a crappy league. I love the NBA. Sure, their could be more defense, but it's the sport with the most athletic players playing in it, it's fun to watch, a ton of great young players, a ton of very good players. I don't see what all the fuss is about. David Stern may make some dumb rules, but he's also done a great job of spreading basketball and the NBA around the world.
