<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A player in Douby's situation -- as a late first-round possibility -- generally needs to attend 10 to 12 NBA team workouts. Those expenses -- airfare, hotel, food, incidentals -- can only be paid by the player or his immediate family. Thus, it could cost Douby and his family in the area of $15,000 just to showcase himself.

An agent will pick up those expenses, however, if the player has signed with him.

"In a lot of ways -- and I'm not specifically talking about Quincy Douby -- an underclassman who is thought of highly is backed into a corner," Glass said. "I don't blame the kids at all (for leaving college early). I blame the NCAA."

Hill said he had worked out an arrangement to help Douby defray some expenses while also showcasing himself before several NBA teams. He said yesterday that the Nets will work out Douby after the playoffs -- and that representatives from the Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers tentatively have agreed to attend.

"It's even permissible under NCAA rules to do it at Rutgers," Hill said.

Douby also has the option of attending the NBA pre-draft camp June 6-10 in Orlando, with the NBA allowed to foot the bill for that. But the top players generally don't go, and many agents don't send their clients because of the risk of a poor showing that could have an impact on their draft stock.

The 6-3 Douby, who averaged 25.4 points during Rutgers' 19-14 season, is sixth on the school's career scoring list with 1,690 points. The Brooklyn native, who entered his name into the NBA Draft shortly after the season ended, broke Bob Lloyd's 39-year-old school record for points in a season with 839.

Rutgers has not had a player drafted in the first round since Roy Hinson was the 20th overall pick in the 1983 Draft. </div>
