VITALS: 6-7, 210, South Kent HS (CT) OVERVIEW: Wright averaged 29.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks as a fifth-year senior at South Kent Prep School in Connecticut. In postseason all-star contests, he led all scorers with 24 points in the Michael Jordan Capital Classic and 17 at the Roundball Classic. During the summer of 2003, Wright participated in the USA Basketball Youth Developmental Festival, leading his team to a bronze medal. Wright also played high school baseball and was scouted by several major league teams. LIKELY DRAFT POSITION: There are strong rumors that Boston (15, 24, 25) offered Wright a guarantee in the draft. Utah (14, 16, 21) and Denver (20) are especially interested as well. Wright is a first-round lock after performing well in workouts. COMPARATIVE UPSIDE: Joe Johnson COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE: Sherell Ford ROLE PROJECTION: Reserve, future All-Star POSITIVES: Wright is the prototypical NBA wing. He has outstanding size, is a great athlete, gets to the hole, is a terrific finisher and has great toughness and aggressiveness. His versatility allows him to be just as comfortable competing in traffic as he is handling the ball on the perimeter. Wright's instincts, skills and physical ability give him a chance to be a star. SHORTCOMINGS: The biggest concern surrounding Wright is that he will not develop into enough of a perimeter player to stand out in the NBA. Because he is so young, it is nearly impossible to predict how much his shooting ability will improve. That makes Wright a risky selection in the first round. WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "He has a quick first step. And, he shot the ball better than I thought he would (in our workout)." - Utah Jazz vice president Kevin O'Connor in the Salt Lake Tribune
