I was very bored at work the other day and decided to come up with a bunch of comparisons. Here's what I came up with: Centers Brook Lopez – Rich man’s Zaza Pachulia Hasheem Thabeet - ??? Roy Hibbert – Zydrunas Ilgauskas (minus jump shot) DeVon Hardin – Poor man’s Dale Davis Joey Dorsey – Poor man’s Ben Wallace Power Forwards Blake Griffin – Elton Brand Kevin Love – David Lee Darrell Arthur – Antonio McDyess Tyler Hansbrough – Nick Collison (more polished offensively) D.J. White – Leon Powe (more range) Richard Hendrix – Leon Powe Ryan Anderson – Troy Murphy Derrick Caracter – Michael Sweetney Small Forwards Michael Beasley – Carmelo Anthony Donte Greene – Rashard Lewis Tyler Smith - ??? Patrick Ewing Jr. – Jamario Moon Shooting Guards O.J. Mayo – Chauncey Billups meets Dwyane Wade Eric Gordon – Cuttino Mobley Chase Budinger – Stephen Jackson Chris Douglas-Roberts – Richard Jefferson Brandon Rush - ??? Bill Walker – Bonzi Wells (more explosive) Kyle Weaver – Quinton Ross (more polished) Point Guards Derrick Rose – Devin Harris (more upside) Jerryd Bayless – Monta Ellis Ty Lawson – T.J. Ford D.J. Augustin – Jameer Nelson Darren Collison – Rajon Rondo (more range) Russell Westbrook – Randy Foye Sean Singletary – Jannero Pargo Your thoughts on these? Which ones do you like? Which ones do you see differently? Want to add some more?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Brook Lopez – Rich man’s Zaza Pachulia</div> ^^ thats just plain hating Brook Lopez- poor man's Tim Duncun Hasheem Thabeet - Dasanga Diop/ a little better offensively DeAndre Jordan- At the same stages of their career Andrew Bynum Javale McGee- P. O'Bryant Blake Griffin – Carlos Boozer Kevin Love – Sean May with more passing ability O.J mayo- Jerry Stackhouse Eric Gordan- Allen Houston Jerryd Bayless- Jamal Crawford Derrick Rose- Gary Payton Michael Beasley- A young Chris Webber without the passing ability Roy hibbert- Michael Olowokandi
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Donte Greene – Rashard Lewis</div> Perfect. Johnny Flynn - vertically challenged Magic Johnson.

Lee is an athletic freak and Love couldn't win a dunk contest against a bunch of 60 year olds. Lee succeeds in the NBA because he hustles his ass off and sublimates himself for the good of his team. Love on the other hand has a bigger ego than Ryan Leaf.

Stole a couple of CB32's comparisons. Centers Brook Lopez – Poor man's Pau Gasol Hasheem Thabeet - Samuel Dalembert Roy Hibbert – Mark Blount DeVon Hardin – Stromile Swift Joey Dorsey – Bo Outlaw Power Forwards Blake Griffin – Carlos Boozer Kevin Love – Luis Scola/Fabricio Oberto (better range and passing) Darrell Arthur – Antonio McDyess Tyler Hansbrough – Mark Madsen D.J. White – Brandon Bass Richard Hendrix – Craig Smith Ryan Anderson – Austin Croshere (less athleticism) Derrick Caracter – Michael Sweetney Small Forwards Michael Beasley – Charles Barkley/Carmelo with better rebounding Donte Greene – Rashard Lewis Tyler Smith - Danny Granger Patrick Ewing Jr. – Bobby Jones Shooting Guards O.J. Mayo – Chauncey Billups meets Dwyane Wade Eric Gordon – Ben Gordon Chase Budinger – Jason Richardson Chris Douglas-Roberts – Jerry Stackhouse Brandon Rush - Rodney Carney Bill Walker – Corey Maggette Kyle Weaver – Larry Hughes Point Guards Derrick Rose – ??? Jerryd Bayless – Mo Williams (bigger) Ty Lawson – Raymond Felton D.J. Augustin – Damon Stoudamire (when he was with Toronto) Darren Collison – Darrell Armstrong (prime) Russell Westbrook – Monta Ellis meets Kyle Lowry
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Kevin Love – Luis Scola/Fabricio Oberto (better range and passing) Tyler Hansbrough – Mark Madsen</div> Think you really missed on those. Luis Scola and Oberto are both soft big men who aren't very good down low. Keven love is a skilled banger with better post moves than most nba bigs. as for the Hansbrough-Madsen comparison, i'm not sure if you could be more off. Madsen is like the kid on JV that the coach kinda likes so he just puts him on the team. Hansbrough has dominated college ball and actually i would compare his game more to McDyess.

They flop around sometimes but they hold their own on the boards and in the post, make smart plays that help their teams win games. Both are very poor athletes by NBA standards but they start because of their intangibles, they're smart at positioning on rebounds, manage to finish in the paint decently because they're smart and fundamentally sound. I disagree that Love has good post moves too. I haven't seen him throwing down advanced NBA post moves (turnaround J's, up and under's, hook shots, etc.). He mostly just gets great position and squeezes it in from right under the hoop. Love isn't going to dominate guys in the league like he does in college, not even close, but I think he'll be a good role player who makes things happen on the court. Also take into consideration Love is an extremely poor athlete by NBA standards and he looks closer to 6'8 than 6'10 IMO. Hansbruogh probably will be better than Madsen I just couldn't think of anyone else to compare him to. There's not many unathletic 6'8ish PFs with a crazy motor running around in the league. I like his scoring ability but I just don't know if it will translate to the NBA. At best hes a decent bench player.
hhmm. well your comparisons make more sense now. i still think hansbrough and love will be better than their comparisons by a lot, especially hansbrough. hes gonna surprise some people in the NBA.
IMO Blake Griffin has just as good a chance of becoming Drew Gooden, as becoming Carlos Boozer. In terms of talent, O.J Mayo might have the 2nd most in this draft
Without giving a compairson I love Mayo's game and you can tell how much he developed this season. He started out chucking 25 shots per game, but then slowly started taking better shots (not that his selection is good now at all), he stepped up in the big games, and finally he proved that if he wants to he can lock down the best players in the nation.

Love is a great passer. Sure, they aren't 100% identical. But that relentless hustle inside reminds me of Lee in a big way. Both just simply have a nose for the ball and work their asses off. I also don't look at Love as a guy who is all about himself and doesn't put his team first, so I guess we disagree there as well.

Lee can actually play the PF position in the NBA while Kevin Love is very slow laterally and will get abused at that position. They play completely different games. Lee plays above the rim and hustles. Love, like Zach Randolph, doesn't hustle, yet gathers a lot of rebounds.
I am going to speak up and say that the only thing that the two really compare on are skin color, size (wait for Love's measurments), and work ethic. I dont see them being anywhere close to the same player in the NBA, but Lee is going to be a force on the boards, while Love will be able to fit into a nice half court set in the NBA due to his passing ability and the fact he can handle the ball and has good moves on the block.
That's a terrible comparison. Love reminds me a bit of Luis Scola, but I don't think he'll be as good. EDIT: Run already brought up that comparison. That's probably how it got in my head.
i dont know why but Mayo screams star to me more then anyone here, will he be the best player, probably not best but close, but star power, probably the tops
