I figured I'd share this DraftExpress database that I've been checking out for a min, because someone was just telling me Dwight's not as tall as everyone thinks he is, and sure enough, according to DE, he's only 6'9" without shoes. It's interesting to browse through the database to sort of put some of the size differentials into perspective - http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/ It's cool that nowadays we have this kind of information on the internet, opposed to back in the day when people used to make claims like "Bird is really a 7'0"er" and you had no way of checking it out. Apparently Blake Griffin isn't even 6'9", Kevin Love isn't even 6'8", and apparently Mike Conley is only four inches taller than Nate Robinson. Also, Jarrett Jack has a sub-29" vertical, less than guys like Brian Cook and Reggie Evans.
I love this kind if info! I know I always think players are taller than they really are. Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!
I remember Jack Dunking his very first home game he played for us..... Atlanta maybe. Never saw it again! Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!
I was surprised that Vin Baker was 6'11.5" without shoes. That means that even though he was 2.5 inches taller, he and Dwight are both listed at the same height. He probably pulled a KG, who they have at 6'11" without shoes. I've always heard KG could be listed at 7'0", but he has the media guides list him at 6'11" so people don't discount his numbers because he's a seven footer. Also, apparently Jordan Farmar's got some hops. Never really saw him as a high flyer, but the numbers are there - 42", ninth best in the entire database. Wouldn't have guessed that one in a thousand tries...
You know who's tall..... Victor Claver is the exact same height as LaMarcus! Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!
They have Leonard's height without shoes as N/A but 7'0" with shoes. The trick that agents have always used though to push a 6'10.25 player to 7'0" is to put him into 1.25 inch shoes, so they bump 'em on up to seven foot. How does he stack up in person with those guys though? Watching him on tv since his Big Ten days, he definitely seems every bit of 7'0", but I guess that's all relative if they overlist the rest of the guys. (I mean, shit, going back to Vin Baker again, if shoes add an inch at least, then he's 7'1". Slap some shoes on him that add another .5 inch, and the guy's now 7'2". Did anyone ever think of Vin Baker in that 7'1"/7'2" range?) Also, how good was Brevin Knight? 5'9.5" ... only .5 inches taller than Isaiah Thomas and 1.75 inches taller than Nate Robinson.
I find it odd when people say 6'9 PFs are undersized these days. The league has gotten smaller yet our idea of the prototypical player at a position hasn't. Very few 6'10+ PFs running around like there were 10 years ago with Duncan, KG, Webber, JO, Dirk, etc. Majority of PFs now are 6'9 give or take a little bit.
