A CFL press release today outlined a plan approved by the board of governors to give the Ottawa franchise "the opportunity to compete" when the city enters the league for the third time (recall the Renegades, pictured left), hopefully in 2013.

Here are some of the highlights:

    1. Expansion draft scheduled for December 13, 2012.

    2. Ottawa allowed to select a total of eight imports, 16 non-imports, including two quarterbacks, from the existing eight teams

    3. Expansion draft will last three rounds -- one for imports, and two for non-imports.

    4. Ottawa also gets to take part in the 2012 and 2013 Canadian college draft. If the team is ready to play in 2013, Ottawa will pick in all six rounds of the '13 draft, after picking as many as four underclassmen in the 2012 draft.

The plan, according to Jeff Hunt, the principal in the Ottawa ownership group, is superior to the one provided Ottawa when the city last entered the CFL in 2002.
