This all revolves around resigning Vilma. If we can get Vilma back we should go after a good CB. I would say a good safety first but there aren't any that really are worth drafting at 14. IF Taylor Mayes was declared to the draft I would definably go after him. Most mocks have us selecting CB Vontae Davis from Illionois. If we don't have to give up a lot I would possibly consider trading up to get Malcom Jenkings, CB from OSU. If we can't resign Vilma then we obviously need to draft a LB. Aaron Curry will be gone in top ten so I see us going after Rey Maualuga or James Laurinatis. If both of those guys are gone I'd trade down and select Brain Cushing in the 20's. Thoughts?
The Saints likely go "Best player on the board" when they finally pick. BJ Raji makes sense, considering how good their ends already are. Davis could be the pick if he was available. Maualuga could be the focus if Vilma is off the team or in jail.
We drafted Sedrick Ellis with or first round pick last year, but he had some injury problems. When he came back he was great. I don't see us going after a another DT this year.
I'm going to bump this to get a few more thoughts in. I would say draft a line backer this year because that is clearly our biggest need, but other than Aaron Curry there is no LB worth drafting at 14. We worked on addressing CB over the off season and Tracy Porter will be back so I don't think that need needs to be addressed in the first round. I would draft Malcolm Jenkins and play him at FS, I think that's the position he will play as a pro. I really hope we don't draft a RB. We already have Pierre Thomas and hopefully a healthy Reggie Bush. We don't have many picks this year but in the later rounds we should try to draft a center and possibly find a LB somewhere in the third round.
I agree. Although alot of Saints fans talk about knowshaun and beenie, everything points to drafting malcom jenkins. We need a long term saftey. We just signed Darren Sharper who is a great veteran to work with Jenkins that way when Sharper leaves Jenkins could step in.
