<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Christian Drejer chose cash over college Wednesday, quitting suddenly at Florida to sign a contract with a professional team in Spain. It was a move that was brokered by Drejer's parents back in Europe, a stunning midseason defection that threatens to make things even worse for the struggling Gators (14-8). The 6-foot-9 swingman, a one-time star in his homeland of Denmark, will play for FC Barcelona in Spain, beginning Thursday night. He will reportedly make $1 million through next season.</div> Story A lot can be said about this move, and a lot of people are flipping out about it. Afterall, without Drejer that team is a lot worse. They lost to Georgia the other night and are barely hanging on against lowly Mississippi. I think this puts an end to any tournament success they were planning on. Analysts have been going down hard on Drejer for this, but here is why I think he made the right decision - <ul> [*]There is a March 3rd deadline for all teams in F.C. Barcelona's conference to submitt their finalized roster. If Drejer waited untill the season was over, he would be unable to join the team. Also, March 3rd is real close to tournament time. If he had waited any longer, it would have stung ten times worse. [*]His stock was drastically falling. If Drejer chose to stay at Florida and enter the draft this year, he most likely would have been a late first round pick or a second round pick. This is an opportunity to get guaranteed money. I don't care who you are; you don't pass up a million dollars over half a semester of college at Florida. [*]American fans and players just don't understand his mindset. Billy Donovan may be burning up inside, but he has told the media that he's fine with this move because he understands this mindset. Let's say the Lakers offered a player like Florida's Roberson a million dollars to play for them at this point of the season. He'd leave in a heartbeat. F.C. Barcelona is the European equivalent of Michael's Bulls and Magic's Lakers. [/list] I support Drejer's decision.
yeah. go somewhere where he can actually get recognized and be a star. he wouldn't amount to much in the nba, had he even got drafted to the nba in the first place. $1 mill is straight.. ;0 if he kicks it up over there in spain, then maybe he can test the nba waters for some 'real' money. ;0
