Detroit Lions lineman Nick Fairley publicly apologized Friday for his recent arrests in Alabama, saying his actions were inexcusable and did not meet the standards expected of a pro athlete.

Fairley, a 2011 first-round draft pick from Auburn, is one of three Lions with offseason problems with law enforcement.

He was arrested in Mobile County, Ala., on May 27 after a state trooper said he was traveling at 100 mph in his Cadillac Escalade. He was cited for reckless driving, no proof of insurance and open container.

Fairley also was arrested April 3 in Mobile, Ala., for possessing marijuana.

"I want to personally apologize to my fans, teammates and the Detroit Lions organization for bringing this unwanted attention to our team," Fairley said on Facebook. "I recognize my actions were inexcusable and I personally need to uphold the expected standard of behavior of a professional athlete.
