<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Trading Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace? Say it ain't so, Joe. Joe Dumars, the Pistons' president, did just that. Dumars squelched a wild rumor that the Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves have discussed a possible deal that would include sending Kevin Garnett to Detroit for Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace and two first-round draft picks. A column by Bill Harris in Friday's Toronto Sun created quite a stir among Detroit basketball fans the last couple of days. Harris attributed the rumor to an unidentified "NBA source." But Dumars said any rumors involving the Pistons' seven core players -- Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Tayshaun Prince, Antonio McDyess and Lindsey Hunter -- should be disregarded. Dumars said he has no intention of breaking up the nucleus of a team that has reached the NBA Finals the last two seasons. He also said he has not even talked lately with Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves' vice president. Harris described the blockbuster possibility as "crazy" and "farfetched." "There certainly is a chance a (rumor) like that got started merely because long-time Minnesota coach Flip Saunders has taken over as coach of the Pistons," Harris wrote. Garnett, a 6-foot-11 forward, averaged 22.2 points and 13.5 rebounds last season. He is an eight-time NBA All-Star and was the league's Most Valuable Player in 2003-04. </div> http://www.detnews.com/2005/pistons/0508/07/C01-272255.htm
Good, I knew that that was just a stupid rumor, Trading there 2 monsters downlow and 2 1st round picks is stupid.
I wouldnt break up the chemstry either. The Pistons have a great starting lineup and for now they shouldnt change it.
I don't know if it will break up chemistry. I think Garnett is someone who can do well in any type of system and if a move like this were to ever go down, the Pistons would still be as good as they were last year; if not, better. With Garnett, you get an MVP and a franchise player who will instill further havoc in the East along with Shaq. Garnett is pretty much a sure 20/12/5 a night kind of player and that will make the Pistons even more dangerous. The Pistons do lose a bit of defense with this deal, but they gain so much more for the defense that they sacrifice by acquiring the player who ranks #1 in efficiency.
Smart move be Dumars, Garnett is an amazing player but giving up their starting frontcourt and 2 first round picks doesn't seem worth it. Stick with what got you those two finals appearances.
Alright then. Don't know how that rumor got started, this isn't NBA 2k5 after all. No way you can do that for the Wallaces and 2 first round picks. Just not worth it. If we knew that Darko could start at center and actually do something, then it would still be too much, but this would be retarded. Good move by Dumars.
