According to one player, Musselman emphasized that Dunleavy had gotten beat on the play several times when the teams played last week in Indianapolis.

Dunleavy responded by telling Musselman that he got beat on the play only once and that the videotape would prove it, the player said. At that point, Musselman criticized Dunleavy for being a poor defender and went on to tell Dunleavy what he thought of his defense.

The player said Dunleavy responded by telling Musselman something to the effect of "I feel the same way about your coaching."

Custodian is going to love this...lol

Musselman isn't ready to be head coach just yet.

These kind of things happen all the time but should be kept behind closed doors.

Sounds like Avery Johnson wants the coaching job next year. He was the player who leaked it out I bet. [IMG]

BTW, I'm backing up Dunleavy on this one. The coach even sat him one time in favor of Calbert Cheaney even though Dunleavy had the hottest hands of the night. Nobody on the team could score or defend and they ended up losing the game. If Dunleavy's game is on let him play. Not that I don't like Calbert, I just don't like him off the bench. When Calbert starts as shooting guard, he's the man. Just look at his stats on games where he starts at SG. As a forward, he kind of bites, even though his game is practically that of an SF and not a guard. Maybe it's just that Jrich and Cheaney don't coexist very well on the same floor since Jrich can create and Calbert can't. Here's Calbert Cheaney's game:

As a forward he get's on the baseline, pump fakes a 3, drives a little closer, backs down, and fadeaway a baseline 18 footer. So predictable! And he holds the ball till there's no time left so he's got no choice but to shoot. However if Dunleavy is the forward and Cheaney is the guard, his game becomes a little different as he tends to cut and slash more, finishing over smaller guards that aren't as strong as him.

I agree. That's just weak to have these things aired out in public. All it does is breed bad feelings. Muss has the right to criticize and Dunleavy can respond.

good for mike anyway...he played PG last night and almost led a comeback...he's being underutilized in my opinion.

Maybe this is why Dun had a good game, he wanted to prove the coach wrong. Good for him. But Dun sounds like a whiny little pampered brat. I think Muss had a good point about Duns lack of defense although probably could have done better by criticising him behind closed doors instead of in public. But some players respond differently. Some players need to be criticized in front on people, and some in private. I just hope Dun carries this and plays harder. I think he is too comfortable as a starter and is slacking. It is funny because Muss is saying Dun plays the worst defense he has ever seen and all Dun can come up with is your coaching is the worst I have ever seen. Cmon Dun, get original.

When is Dunleavy whiny? Because of an unattributed quote? Please people think before taking the word of "unnamed sources" as true. Would you want to be judged that way? When is it ever good to criticize someone in front of everyone else? That's not communication, that's abusing your power to humiliate, plain and simple. I'm not trying to be an apologist, I just believe that Dunleavy, like anyone else, should be treated as fairly as I would like to be treated.

Ah, they both are two figures who are well known for past accomplishments with nothing spectacular proved this year.

BTW, that avatar almost made me choke on a cornflake cuz I was laughing and the damn thing went down the right pipe. Damn almost killed me in front of my co-workers and then I'd have to explain, if they revive me, what I'm doing looking at basketball stuff.

Dunleavy's expression when his teammates give him a pat on the butt at practice.

Haha. The thing that has pissed me off about Dunleavy has been his attitude since before draft day. He did not want to come here until Jamison and St had dinner with him and probably said they wanted to bring his dad in as a coach. Then about his attitude for not playing even though we had Jamison. Then the All star break where he should have mending his hurt ankle instead he played in the game and delayed his return to the team. Then this thing with Muss. Thats all.

i'm gonna have to agree with rick barry on this one and say that dunleavy is probably the best setup man on the team, and because he doesn't get the ball, he can't contribute to it. all of a sudden dunleavy gets the ball last night and the warriors make a semi-comeback against a great defensive team.

It was totally obvious that the warriors were trying to make a weak attempt to get Dunleavy Sr. as Coach when draft day came.

And I have no doubt that Dunleavy can rock when it comes to playing against much smaller people like he did in college. Against other forwards in the league. Not really.

I would be disappointed too if I were drafted on a team that already had an all-star callibur SF. The guy has kept his mouth shut and has worked his ass off and is now finally getting his chance and he is making the most of it.

Musselhead is a musselhead and seems to speak his mine when he wants to, it comes with being a young coach and having a team that hasn't really been in a winning environment...criticizing should take place behind doors and face to face, not with others present. breaking someone down should be involved with building them up. Why would Musselhead criticize now, hasn't this been a problem for the whole year?

Musselman is a great coach, hands down, he does what he can with what he has, and its been great watching him. He's hilarious when he gets T's and he stands up for his players. Damp had a problem with him last year, so did JRich, let's hope the remainder of the year is very positive and the W's resign him and give Dunleavy his 4th year.

Minor arguments between good players and coaches arise all the time, and it's the media and fans who blow it up to be out of proportion. I bet the exchange was something unimportant, and even if it was, at least we know it's good for Dunleavy's game [IMG].

I just don't understand why some players feel the need to tell the media what happens behind closed doors...especially players who had absolutely nothing to do with the "confrontation".
