Phil Hughes shuts me up Scranton wins 2-0. First, I’m very surprised. Phil Hughes dominated the Pawtucket Red Sox. He didn’t get the win but he helped Scranton move to the Governor Cups Finals. 11 strikeouts giving up only 4 hits. I didn’t think Hughes had it in him to pitch this well. I guess you have to have him start one game for the Yankees at the end of the season. Then Shelley Duncan hits a walk off home run to win the game in the 10th inning. I feel bad for Duncan. There’s really no room for him in the majors and I don’t think the Yankees have any plans to use him. You’d think that since the Yankees have one of the best teams in minor league baseball that a lot of great prospects would come from this team. There are good prospects but no one great that every one would want to trade for. Back to Phil Hughes. I’m sure he felt embarrassed pitching the way he pitched at times this year but he has shown some resiliency. He faced one of the best teams in Minor League baseball and he passed with more than flying colors. I criticized him heavily when he got destroyed earlier in the season to the worst teams in the minor leagues. Did he ever shut me up. There’s nothing I can say to 11 strikeouts in 8 shut out innings.
