Dunleavy Not Returning Anytime Soon

MIAMI - I'm hoping you guys can answer something for me.

Why does an airline board a plane then suddenly realizes its computer system isn't working?

Don't they check everything when the pilots get the plane well before passengers get on?

How about pulling away from the gate then suddenly realizing the plane needs de-icing?

I guess they didn't notice the temperatures dipped into the 20's Friday night. I'm not going to mention which airline I was on but it was one of those travel days down to South Florida this morning.

There's been a lot of talk about Mike Dunleavy going through hard workouts, which would make you think he's getting close to returning to the lineup.

Let's stop right there.

Dunleavy isn't close to returning the lineup.

Nobody in the organization has an idea on when the Pacers second-leading scorer will be back.

Just know it won't be anytime soon.

I asked him recently if he's taken any steps toward his return and his response was, "I'd call it more like a half step."

That's not a good sign.

Dunleavy's workouts has been relatively the same the past few weeks.

He does strength and conditioning work on the side while watching his teammates practice. He takes the court afterwards and goes through shooting drills.

I wouldn't say Dunleavy is getting close to returning until I show up for practice one day and see him wearing a practice jersey, cutting, passing and shooting with the rest of his teammates.

In the meantime, Marquis Daniels will continue to start at shooting guard where he's done a great job so far.

Pacers coach Jim O'Brien is throwing his team a bone by staying in Miami until Monday evening. The Pacers are expected to take Sunday off and then practice at American Airlines Arena on Monday afternoon before flying to Dallas for Tuesday's game against Rick Carlisle's Mavericks.
