Okay so now with Beckett's Cy Young hopes out of reach I'll make another attempt 53 Games, .331 Batting Average, 3 Home Runs, 21 RBI's, 23 Runs
him or okajima...dustin has been absolutely amazing the last month though. the kids definitely got some game
Its a weird year for rookies. There are alot of them that have been playing the whole season. Usually when you look at ROY you look at guys that didnt play the first month - two months of the year. Boston has a couple of ROY candidates in Pedroia and Dice. Actually they have another in Okajima, can't forget him.I really like Reggie Willits though, Pedroia may have been better, but Willits has been pretty damn impressive.
Pedroia53 Games, .331 Batting Average, 3 Home Runs, 21 RBI's, 23 Runs Willits55 games, .321 Batting Average, 0 HR, 14 RBI, 33 Runs, 15 stolen bases
ASUFan22 :worthy: You probably got to see him a lot in college. You a fan? The guy has such a great swing and is phenomenal in the field.
Nah man, I wish. I heard he was good but I only got into college baseball right when he left. :-/ I see that I really missed out, but there are 8 players on ASU now that have been drafted so I'll get a chance to follow them all the way. Hey Diawsome, do you know if Pedroia was on the same team as Ethier or did they both leave after a year?
On a similar note, Ike Davis with a home run! 5-4 ASU! I really don't like the Sox much at all, but I'll be rooting for Pedroia to win the ROY and have a great career.
Pedroia has blown the roof off of any expectations Sox fans have had of him. He has been consistent with the bat after starting off slow. He has been jumbled around in the lineup and has had no visible problems with that. He has also been tremendous in the field. Reggie Willits and Dustin are going to be battling back and forth for this award all season.
I'd say Elijah Dukes is also a good candidate. As of June 18th, he's batting .190, has 10 homeruns, 21 RBI's, 27 Runs, and 2 SB's. His batting average is the only thing bringing him down, but he'll be able to turn that around eventually because he's a great hitter.

Everything else is nothing short of terrible. I mean come on, he's under the Mendoza line.

As of right now he's basically putting up the same stats in less games.Elijah Dukes: .190, 10 HR, 21 RBI, 27 R, 2 SB (in 51 games)Dustin Pedroia: .322, 3 HR, 21 RBI, 25 R, 0 SB (in 55 games)
Elijah Dukes is a head case, he's the Ron Artest of major league baseball. It's tough to tell right now, but I don't think you can go wrong with Pedroia, Okajima, or Willits. Also Delmon Young of Tampa Bay is starting to heat up, not saying he's going to win, but he definitely has a very bright future.
Delmon Young is putting up better numbers than both Dukes and Pedroia. If the Devil Rays can manage to keep Upton, Dukes, Crawford & Young they have a very bright future ahead of them. Delmon Young: .264, 8 HR, 38 RBI, 33 R, 4 SBI realize Pedroia is having a good month, but it's ridiculous how people are jumping to the conclusion that he's ROY. (This coming from an unbiased Giants fan)

Pedroia also gives you a great glove.

(This coming from an unbiased Giants fan)</div>Aside from SLG%, Delmon Young has better power numbers than Pedroia, but that's about it. But that doesn't mean too much, considering Jeter got 113 more votes than David Ortiz for AL MVP last year.Dustin Pedroia is hitting .322, compared to Young's .264, a difference of .58 points. He also has a MUCH better OBP, .398 to Young's .296, a difference of .102. He's also a much more disciplined hitter at the plate. He strikes out less, and draws more walks as well. That said, he may not even be the best candidate on his team. Hideki Okajima has been out of this world. 2-0, 1.04 ERA, and a .81 WHIP. He's given up just 19 hits in 34.2 innings, and batters are hitting a measly .157 against him. Ever since giving up a home run in his first outing, he's pitched 30+ innings of scorless baseball. Dominant.Travis Buck of the Oakland A's has better overall numbers than Young as well.
I understand where you're coming from...I'm just annoyed how everyone is all over Pedroia because he's been having a good month offensively. He's obviously got a lot of talent, but some of those numbers are inflated because of the team he's on. When you have people like Ortiz, Ramirez & Lowell ahead of you, its going to give you a better chance for RBI's and Runs. As for Okajima, I haven't seen a lot of him except for the game against the Giants. The Red Sox are going to make a deep run into the playoffs because of all the weapons they have on offense and defense
The runs and the RBI's isn't what everybody is impressed with. It's his batting average and on base percentage. Those stats have nothing to do with the team he's on.And his very good fielding.

Yes, ahead of David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez...Before that he was all over the place, and I'm guessing he doesn't have a set spot (Can an actual Red Sox fan confirm that?) I think its too early to have this discussion, but as of right now he's a possible ROY candidate...
