Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is still waiting on the results of a second opinion, but as of Wednesday afternoon there was still a possibility he would need season-ending surgery on his fractured left foot, according to a team source. Scans of his foot have been sent to Drs. Jonathan Deland and Robert Anderson, both foot specialists, but the Red Sox have not heard back and no determination has been made on surgery. "I'm sure at some point we're going to talk to Anderson," Francona said before Wednesday's doubleheader. "Deland is in Austria, so I can't guarantee when he's going to see that disk." Pedroia originally suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot on June 25 in San Francisco and missed a total of 44 games before being activated on Aug. 17. He played only two games before returning to the disabled list with discomfort. Pedroia had returned to the lineup because he was pain-free and X-rays showed proper healing in the foot. He did not have a CT scan before he was given medical clearance to play. The issue now is whether his foot has stopped healing. Meanwhile, Pedroia is getting anxious.
