<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>OrlandoSentinel.com Magic center Dwight Howard has signed a contract extension, the Orlando Magic announced today. The five-year extension is estimated to be worth $85 million over five years, but the exact value of the deal will not be known until next year's salary cap is released.Howard, 22, and newly signed forward Rashard Lewis will form the foundation for the team to build around for years to come.</div>http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-...0,6723707.storySo now that we have all of our money tied into these two players, the big question becomes who are we going to get to put around these two evrey year? Right now we have a decent core of players around them that can play defense and stuff, but sooner or later they are going to start leaving for more money. Then who do we get? I am still liking trying to sign Marc Jackson to the veteran's minimum for a couple of years, he is a big who can bother other teams big men one on one from the bench, and shoot the mid range shot. He wouldn't cost that much, and would fill a purpose there.
I kind of compare this situation in Orlando to a couple that buys a house/vehicle they can't afford, and now they are forced to shop at the dollar store and second hand store.

Next Knicks franchise, anybody?</div> I don't think it's comparable to New York, because at least Orlando is signing good players. But between the two of them, they are paying $211.4 million. That is RIDICULOUS. Dwight's contract isn't that ridiculous, although it's still very high, it's right around where the other star bigs are getting. I will never get over Rashard Lewis' contract, though... never. Otis Smith just practically crippled the Orlando Magic financially.
Holy cow! Dwight and Rashard combine for 200 miliion dollars! The Pacers top 3 players don't even combine for 100 million

But seriously, yeah these two players are good to build a chise around, but it all depends on who they get to play around them. That, to me, would separate them from New York if they get the right guys. I sure hope they don't end up like them :no1:

That's gonna be one of the nicest duos next year and I think they're both gonna benefit each other.Dwight deserves the money he's getting, it's right around the price he should be getting. People shoudln't be shocked at this extension, it was being negotiated during the season and he was the #1 pick and the Magic's franchise player.

ANd JO is one of the top 15 players in the league and probably a top 7 or 8 defender
Just letting you guys know, with that extension, There salary cap next year will being at 52 M, and will have to resign players like Arroyo, Garrity, Dooling, and Ariza if he decides to take his player option. On average, you will have to sign them all to 2 million dollar contract or 3 at the most, when all 4 four players are getting more this season. Your not going to be able to sign any free agents unless you sign and trade as well.

I'm sure the Magic will not look to re-sign either one of them for alot of money. For Arroyo and Ariza, there are rules in place(I can't completely remember the name of the rules) and exceptions where as long as they were already part of the team, we can go over the salary cap by a certain amount to re-sign players to the team. So it's not going to be as hard as you think it is to sign one of those four back if we wanted to.
