"Three weeks after finishing with the second-best scoring defense in the NBA, the Miami Heat was rewarded with a second-team All-Defensive selection for guard Dwyane Wade.

The result of the polling of the league's 30 head coaches was announced Wednesday.

It is the third time Wade has earned a second-team All-Defensive selection, also cited in 2005 and last year. Center Alonzo Mourning, with selections in 1999 and 2000, is the only player in the Heat's 22 seasons to earn a first-team designation. The only other Heat players named the All-Defensive team were forward P.J. Brown, who was selected to the second team in 1997 and '99, and forward Bruce Bowen, a second-team selection in 2001.

Wade finished fourth in the NBA in steals, at 1.84 per game, and 29th in blocked shots, tops among all NBA guards The Heat allowed just 94.2 points per game, second only to the 93.8 allowed per game by the Charlotte Bobcats, and also finished second in the league in defensive field-goal percentage, at .439.

This past season marked the sixth in a row that Wade led the team in steals. Wade led the Heat in steals 43 times this season and in blocked shots 22 times.

In averaging 1.06 blocks this past season, Wade became the first guard to average more than one block per game in consecutive seasons since former Boston Celtics guard Reggie Lewis accomplished the feat in the 1990-91 and '91-92.

The only other Heat player to receive a vote was center Jermaine O'Neal, who received one first-place vote for two points in the weighted system, tying for 28th overall in the balloting."
