Ex-Raven, Ed Hartwell has signed with the Falcons and will hope to be a starting Linebacker unlike when he was with the Ravens.

Finally, us Falcons fans have been waiting for this guy to sign in Atlanta and choose us over the other teams in the running for him. Glad he picked Atlanta. From what I've heard Hartwell will be starting at LB. Which means Chris Draft will be out of his starting job.

Overall a great signing for the Falcons.

Seattle was in the running, and I really didnt think we were going to end up signing Hartwell. I didnt think we had the cap room, so either I was wrong about the cap or some changes were made to get him signed.

I thought you guys switched to 4-3? Dont you already have middle backer(brooking?) I just dont see him fitting the Defense he is a 3-4 backer IMO.

Hartwell actually said in the article I read that he prefers playing the middle in the 4-3 and they actually moved Brooking outside last season....I wish the Pats could have got this kid...he's solid and played very well in the abscence of ray lewis.

If he is playing in the middle it is not so bad, but in cover 2, which the falcons are running now?) you need a middle linebacker who can get depth into secondary, this guy is huge and great vs run, but i dont think you can play him on passing downs and be effective.

The Ravens played a 4-3 I think, I'm not sure and since Ray Lewis who was the best MLB for that situation, the coaches made Ed Hartwell a backup because he didn't show that much potential compared to Ray did.

Pats is right, Brooking was moved outside so Hartwell will be the MLB I'm assuming Draft will be moved out of that spot. I think he should do well there from what I've seen of him he looks to be pretty solid.
