Do you guys think it was a big mistake to let Eddie Griffin go?

I think it was, He was the big body that we needed who can block shots and play defense. I didn't really understand the reason to release him (don't we still have to pay him?)

Now in Minn, he's doig great. In just 20 some minutes, he's doing so much. If he played more minutes, he would average well over a double double.

Can't say I agree. Why? It's team policy to do what the Rockets did to him. Sure, he was a little kid, not knowing what to do and how to establish himself in the league, but doing drugs and beating up women is just wrong. Statistically, I think we'd all appreciate his numbers for us, but I couldn't cheer for a guy who's screwed us over three times and not do anything about it. Maybe he's changed, but I still wouldn't want him in a Rockets uniform. Everyone says we betrayed him, it's the other way around. CD and Rudy, and JVG gave him enough chances to redeem himself, but he always went back to his old self. Just my 2 cents.

I hate that we traded Richard Jefferson to get him.

We needed him in Lakerland, and I thought it was a lock since Rudy T had favored him in the past...but it just didn't happen.

Richard Jefferson...what a bad trade that was. Maybe not as bad now, but wow.

Well just think about what the Rockets would have been like if they would have drafted Jordan over Hakeem? I mean we can play the "What if's" all day long about what the Rockets could have done, instead of what they did. At the time the Eddie trade was good for the team. I remember that the entire Rockets organization thought he was the #1 player in the draft that year. When they had the chance to get him, they were licking their chops. At the time it was a great move however after whats gone on now, all we can do is sit back and wonder "what if"...

As for letting him go, I think it was the right move. Clearly put, he violated our team rules and was a "black hole" in our program. When you are trying to build something great you cant have all the negativity. I think releasing Eddie, was the right move made by the Rockets organization, no matter what the case.

During the time, Eddie Griffin was a huge cancer to our team. He was killing our team chemistry and his attitude about the team was horrible. Are you willing to keep a guy like that on your team? We probably wouldn't even be in our situation right now if we kept the guy. I don't care if he's putting up great numbers in Minnesota. Great for him, but you can't keep going with the what ifs. Don't envy Minnesota with Griffin's success, you should be cherishing it. Wasn't he, a former Houston player? That's why I think we should congratulate him for getting out of his drug problems and coming out a great player once again.

I agree with some posters in that the Eddie Griffin waiving was good. Sure, you might regret it now, but so? At the time, Griffin was a huge cancer to the team and his actions had brought down the team's image. Releasing him was a good move character-wise, and at the time, we already had Taylor and Cato at the four spot. We wouldn't have missed him much at the time. Even though he's playing great now, he wasn't while with us.

And besides, you can regret so many things. Portland regrets not picking Jordan, Phoenix regrets trading Kidd, and even some of us regret the Barkley trade. Live in the present, not dwell in the past.

Agreed. He was a very troubled player at the time. He had so many personal issues and he was, like Trip mentioned, a cancer to the team. Yes, he's having a successful season thus far with the Timberwolves, but they gave him a chance. It was a very risky chance because of all of the troubles he's had with him. He's a big body and a good talent, but he had just too many troubles with him.

That is seriously flawed, the Rockets, had Jefferson been there, might not have gotten the number one pick the following year, which turned out to be Yao. Had Jefferson been here, he would have been perfect to run with Francis, thus McGrady and Howard might not be here. Lastly, with Jefferson, we wouldn't have needed a small forward like Jim Jackson, which would not lead to David Wesley.

    GINOOOBILIIIII!!!

Sorry Trip, I just had to. [IMG]

If Griffin was a good kid out of the draft, you guys would've been farther into the playoffs with him. But who knows how that might've effected the draft with Yao.

Well, I rather have Yao then Griffin. Yao heart is decidated to basketball. Playing all year round. He's an AWESOME center but, this sure he's dissapointment, hopefully he can break-out soon. As for that line-up. I still prefer the one we have current.
