Eileen Brennan attends An Evening of Comedy Gala on May 7, 1977. Actress Eileen Brennan died Sunday, July 28, at age 80. Brennan's management company, Unified Management, released a statement that she passed away in a hospice after battling bladder cancer. She was probably best known for her Oscar-nominated performance as Genevieve in "The Last Picture Show." She was also an Oscar contender in the film "Private Benjamin," a 1980 movie in which she starred with Goldie Hawn. Her Hollywood career was almost cut short in 1982, however, when a car accident changed her life. She was hit by an oncoming car and suffered leg, face and eye injuries. Those injuries then brought about dependencies on antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication, as well as an addiction to prescription pain pills. After attempting a return to acting in 1984 in "Off The Rack," Brennan checked herself into the Betty Ford Rehab Center for six weeks.
