Elena Baltacha exited the Aegon Classic in Birmingham after retiring during her opening match with illness. The British number one lost the first set of her meeting with Estonia's Kaia Kanepi 6-1 before pulling out. It was not clear if Baltacha, 26, was still feeling the effects of heatstroke she suffered after winning the Aegon Trophy on 5 June or had food poisoning.
