According to CagePotato, EliteXC has canceled their planed September 20th event in Albuquerque, NM.

The main event of the show was going to be Jake Shields vs. John Alessio, for some reason, but Alessio pulled out, claiming he didn't have time to prepare for a title bout--which he obviously doesn't. EliteXC has gone ahead and canceled the show outright rather than retool it, possibly because of the horrible attendance they had at the show in Stockton with big names involved.

EXC has another Saturday Night Fights event planned for October 3rd to expect to see that card get stacked up instead. Slice and Carano are scheduled to fight at that event.

When a promotion starts to cancel shows it is typically a really bad sign. Looks like they are going to be throwing all their eggs in the CBS basket for now.

The rumor on the internet right now is that Jake Shields might step in for Vitor Belfort at the Affliction show and take on Matt Lindland. I guess that would be a catch weight fight, or maybe Shields can make 185. I don't know why he wants to fight Stinky--maybe Affliction is offering him the right number of zeros.

EliteXC has also canceled Contenders 11 and it looks like Cage Rage will fold.

strange news all around for Proelite sports.. me thinks affliction hurt them more than Affliction hurt the UFC.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Strange happenings for ProElite

In addition to EliteXC canceling its planned Sept. 20 event in Albuquerque, N.M., we are receiving word that its parent company, ProElite, has also called off a “Contenders 11” event in the UK that had been scheduled for today. “Contenders” is the “B” brand of Cage Rage, which was acquired by ProElite last year. Several layoffs have also taken place with Cage Rage now down to just three full-time employees.

ProElite also filed a notice with the SEC that they will be late in filing their 10-Q quarterly report for the fiscal second quarter that ended June 30. According to the extension request, ProElite intends to file their second quarter report on Aug. 19.

In other ProElite-related corporate, the company’s stock (PELE.PK) jumped from $2.50/share to $8.00 on Friday. That’s an increase of $5.50 in just one day. There’s no word why the stock suddenly jumped 220% in one day. I could speculate, but I won’t. But I think it’s obvious that something is going on behind the scenes.</div>
