Why couldn't they work together? The Mav's have a pretty thin roster nowadays with all the players that have left over the years. As of now you've got... PG - Beaubois SG - Carter/D. Jones SF - Marion/Azubuike PF - Nowitkzki/Wright C - Kaman They definitely need to add depth at the pg position, but more importantly, they just need good players. That lineup as thin as it has been in recent Mavericks memory. Their offseason sort of reminds of me of when they brought in all those guys like Jamison, Walker, and Stackhouse in what seemed like a last-ditch effort at the time to win ball games (which is kinda ironic in hindsight with their 2011 title). They will also probably have more cap room than most teams after bidding for Brand to go out and get some more players, like Ramon Sessions. Wright can play the 5, and Nowitzki can play the 3. Their frontcourt is shaping up to be very experienced and versatile. The only thing they need is really a legitimate starting point guard.
Apparently they traded for Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones for the sign-and-trade right for Mahinmi an hour or two before I posted. http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story...ericks-acquire-darren-collison-indiana-pacers Collison is a much better get than Sessions imo. PG - Collison/Beaubois SG - Carter/Da. Jones/Do. Jones SF - Marion/Azubuike PF - Nowitzki/(Brand?) C - Kaman/Wright And they have cap room and an owner with money to spare... You just have to ask yourself: Would you rather have a 39 year old Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, and Brendan Haywood,... or Darren Collison, Elton Brand, and Chris Kaman (with room for another FA)? It looked like the Mav's were dead in the water a week ago, but they've been pulling it together, surprisingly.
