The Edmonton Eskimos have released veteran defensive tackle Adam Braidwood. Drafted first overall in the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft, the former Washington State product was Edmonton's nominee for Outstanding Rookie in 2006, but a recurring knee injury forced him to sit out the entire 2008 and 2009 seasons. A native of Delta, BC, Braidwood posted 64 defensive tackles, 12 sacks and one touchdown (vs. Calgary, Sept 8/'06) in 46 career games. Braidwood is facing charges stemming from two separate incidents last year in Stony Plain and Edmonton. He was released on bail January 27, 2011. Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "After a lengthy discussion with Adam this week we have mutually agreed to release him from his contract. This move is not being made to pass judgment on the legal process, but rather an acknowledgement that no resolution appears likely until his trial, which doesn't begin until 2012. Adam has indicated that his total focus is on the legal case, which is understandable. At age 26, he's still a young man who has a chance to do many positive things with his life. It's our hope and prayer that he will do so." Adam Braidwood says, "I really enjoyed my time with the Eskimos. The Edmonton fans and the organization were very good to me and I will always appreciate that. I also want to thank Mr. Tillman for all the time and support he has given my parents." Eskimo Training Camp 2011 opens Sunday, June 5th at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton.
