The Edmonton Eskimos have signed free agent safety Robbie Vaughn, the club announced today.

Vaughn (6'-0", 202 lbs) starred at the University of Connecticut from 2006-'09. As a sophomore he set a school record with seven interceptions and finished his collegiate career with 12 INTs in 33 games. In his senior year in '09, Vaughn posted 63 tackles, including 10 vs. Pittsburgh which earned him Big East Player of the Week honours. The Boston native, who majored in economics at UConn, attended minicamps with the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins in 2010.

Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "Robbie is a very instinctive safety who enjoyed a highly productive career at UConn. As a three-year starter at an elite program, he demonstrated a knack for always being around the football. Twelve interceptions in 33 games as a starter is clearly an eye opening stat. He's versatile enough to compete for two or three spots in Rich Stubler's defensive system."

Eskimo Training Camp 2011 opens Snday, June 5th at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton. The Esks travel to Regina to face the Roughriders on Friday, June 17th. Edmonton host Calgary on Friday, June 24th at Commonwealth Stadium.
