The Edmonton Eskimos have released import defensive end Kai Ellis and import offensive lineman Patrick Afif, the club announced today.

Ellis played two years for the Esks after being traded to Edmonton from Winnipeg before the 2009 season in exchange for DB Siddeeq Shabazz. Ellis played 30 games for the Eskimos over two seasons recording 97 tackles, 16 special teams tackles, nine quarterback sacks and two fumble recoveries including one he returned 40 yards for a touchdown. He was the team's nominee for Most Outstanding Defensive Player 2009. Ellis has played eight seasons in the CFL with Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg and Edmonton.

After being released from 2010 training camp by the Eskimos, Afif rejoined the club on October 26 and played in the last two games of the season.
