Sad, but deserving. I remember when we (the Grizzlies) drafted him. I was vehemently opposed to Thabeet as a prospect. I didn't think he was deserving of the lottery, much less our #2 pick. I could look into the archives of old JBB for examples, but I don't really even need to, because my dislike of Thabeet was so strong that I remember it to this day. It's easy to look back at a draft and say a team should have drafted a different player, but in this draft, the Hasheem Thabeet pick was more egregious than that; it transcended logic. It was a huge stretch, and it was largely fueled by the Grizzlies' (ex)owner, Michael Heisley, who saw Thabeet in a work out and, 'allegedly', instructed the team to draft him. The Grizz have done a decent job of building a cohesive roster in recent years, but just look at the three players drafted right after Thabeet - James Harden, Tyreke Evans (from University of Memphis), and Ricky Rubio. I know a lot of teams have horror stories of bad drafts, like when the Blazers took Oden over Durant, but the difference in this situation is that Oden was actually a dominant center who had the potential for greatness. We blindly took a stick-figure, nothing, Manute Bol wannabe on our dumbass owner's recommendation, without fully evaluating him.
