The Hornets have reached out to Monty Williams for their head coaching vacancy. I can't say I'm surprised.
1. Link? 2. Define "reached out". 3. Is he the only one they've copped a feel of? I would be frankly amazed if this is any more than asking him if he would like to be a candidate. New Orleans is about to be sold, and they're not going to hire anybody before that happens. And the new owners will probably want to make a bigger splash than that, most likely local boy Avery Johnson.
I just got home to watch the NFL draft. I have ESPN on and they reported Doug Collins was approached about the Hornets job. They then listed the other people they've asked permission to speak with. Lo and behold, Monty Williams was one of the names.
Unrelated, but I thought it was funny that JVG knew Nate McMillan's contract situation. He brought it up during the LA/POR game last week and was wondering why McMillan didn't have a long-term contract. Someone sure is playing close attention.
I am still hopeful that Jordan will continue his dumbass ways of running a team and cut loose Larry Brown. ....
Thanks for the heads-up. I just noticed that ESPN's coverage began at 4. I just switched over to The NFL Network.
Just hoping someone else makes the mistake of hiring JVG or Avery. Would hate to see Monty go and think he is going to be a great coach. Speaking of draft, did you just catch the interview on the NFL network from the TE the Patroits drafted. Remined me of Chris Farley interviewing Arnold.
If you're an assistant in the NBA and you get an offer to take a head coaching job, you'd be stupid to turn it down.
Well Monty is a big time family man. He is all about his kids. He might not want to raise his kids down in NOLA. But who knows, maybe the draw of being the HEAD coach far outweighs that!
